Steinitz confident Israel and Cyprus can supply EastMed pipeline

ATHENS – Israel and Cyprus have enough gas to fill the proposed EastMed natural gas pipeline from the East Mediterranean to Europe, Israel’s Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz told New Europe in an interview in Athens on 3 January. A few moments earlier, Steinitz signed with his Greek and Cypriot counterparts — Kostis Hatzidakis and Yiorgos Lakkotrypis — an intergovernmental agreement for the 1,900-kilometre EastMed pipeline at a ceremony in Athens. Global Oil And Gas Discoveries Hit Four-Year High

The world’s oil and gas explorers powered ahead and discovered 12.2 billion barrels of oil equivalent (boe) in 2019, the highest volume since 2015, according to estimates from Rystad Energy. Cyprus to work with Israel over exploitation of Aphrodite gas field

Cyprus will send a proposal for the exploitation of the Aphrodite natural gas field in the coming weeks to Israel, government spokesman Kyriacos Koushios said on Saturday. Energean seeks help from Cypriot politicians in Israeli gas supply bid

Greek oil and gas producer Energean seeks to convince Cypriot parliamentary party leaders to pressure the government into accepting its proposal to sell its Israeli gas to Cyprus. In a statement on Tuesday, Energean said it had requested a meeting with Cypriot political leaders to “inform them of our proposal to import natural gas to Cyprus through a pipeline from Israel”.
