Poseidon Med II, paving the way for LNG Bunkering in Cyprus

Cyprus set on a course in 2015, to end its energy isolation through its participation to the EU co-funded project Poseidon Med II.
The Action has utilised the technical excellence of 26 partners to the maximum to prepare a solid ground for the deployment of LNG as a marine fuel in the Eastern Mediterranean, while making Greece an international bunkering and distribution hub for LNG in South Eastern Europe.
Building on their kinship relations, Cyprus has followed the Greek paradigm and committed the necessary resources and political will in an effort to join the global trend of green economy and decarbonised shipping.
This workshop aims to showcase the Poseidon Med II milestones towards the wide use of LNG, primarily in the maritime sector. A panel comprising of highly respected figures will share their success stories through the opportunity offered by the Action to embrace LNG as key element in Cyprus’ energy transition pathway.

ENERGY SKEEN™ – THE ENERGETIC SYSTEM FOR INTEGRATED ARCHITECTURE –
New opportunities for green sustainability. A vision, a plan, dealing with circular economy and European ecological transition.

Mecplex The Network is ready to break the rules of energetic efficiency systems with its product, Energy Skeen™. To do this, the Skeen Team™ has been set up, a network of companies strongly oriented towards circular economy and renewables.
Mecplex photovoltaic panels deal with parametric architecture and environmental values that EU has been using to define its own future energetic policies.
Digital manufacturing represents the way on which develop new labour standards aiming to value the engineering of a production such as Energy Skeen™.
Due to this, Mecplex has developed a software to model “free form” surfaces with PV panels, providing solutions to the age-old problem of consumption of soil and gaining energy efficiency for industrial and civic buildings.

An introduction to OffshoreMuster Solution: Key Features & Advantages

OffshoreMuster is an integrated emergency response decision support system enhancing workers’ safety in offshore O&G assets.

Each person onboard carries a battery-powered, uniquely identifiable wearable. Localisation gateways installed throughout the asset, retrieve in real time, localisation, tracking and other data from the wearables.

OffshoreMuster algorithms process this data in real-time and provide situational awareness of any escalating incident, automated people mustering and personnel localisation. OffshoreMuster can also locate personnel up to 1km around the asset, day or night and under harsh weather.

“CyGas Footprint: Transition to a Cleaner fuel”

The Cyprus LNG Import Terminal is the highest sustainable investment ever undertaken by the Cyprus Government, thus a critical component in Cyprus’ energy strategy with significant energy security, environmental and economic impacts.

The Cyprus LNG Import Terminal will allow Cyprus to replace expensive and polluting heavy fuel oil with cleaner natural gas and will also facilitate a new energy hub for industries including shoreside transport, shipping, and logistics. In the longer term, flexible gas-fired power plants will play a key role as Cyprus moves towards sustainable energy as part of the accelerating green transition in the EU. This project is of key importance in the integration of Cyprus with the European networks of energy and transport. It will introduce natural gas to the island, establishing the gas market and lifting its energy isolation. The project has received the political and financial support of the European Union.

GEOSYNTHETICS IN THE ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE

The opportunities for geosynthetics in energy applications are nearly endless. Geosynthetics line storage tanks, support roads to remote sites, line tailings ponds, provide filtration, dewater coal ash, retaining structures, line freshwater storage ponds and tanks.

In this presentation, we will look at the many applications and innovations in the world of geosynthetics and energy.

Regardless of what kind of energy is produced, geosynthetics often play a role. As energy consumption increases and innovation ensues, from the oil fields of Texas to the wind turbines of the Sahara deserts, geosynthetics will help build our energy infrastructure.

Conventional process simulation versus simulation with Data Validation and Reconciliation (DVR)

Conventional process simulators use inputs from field measurement devices such as flowmeters, pressure and temperature sensors, and sample fluids analysis. The statistical nature of inputs (e.g. measurement uncertainty) are usually not considered in the forward calculations performed by the simulators and this can lead to erroneous simulation outputs when the raw measurement is in error. This is further exacerbated when undetected biased inputs are introduced in the calculations. In this talk, an alternative modeling methodology is presented; It identifies and corrects measurements and process errors as an integral part of a robust modeling practice. It ensures that quasi error-free data is used in the process models and simulators for measurement and allocation systems design, operation, and surveillance. Confidence in the data is further enhanced by evaluating the uncertainty of measured and unmeasured variables.
